Electricity
We have enhanced and modified the campus electrical distribution system to increase productivity and expand options for purchasing electricity in a deregulated marketplace.
Recent modifications include:
-
Construction of the Main Campus Substation.
-
Upgraded interconnection to generation from the Abbott Power Plant.
-
Connections of major campus electrical loads were connected to the campus electrical distribution system.
-
Replacement of a ged and unreliable paper insulated lead distribution cable was replaced.
These enhancements permit the following benefits:
-
The majority of the campus connected electric load can be supplied from either the local utility or from generation resources at the Abbott Power Plant. This provides an operation that enhances reliability and economic dispatch.
-
The campus substations are rated for 138KV. The insulators at these voltage levels are "animal proof" by size and length, which eliminates a common failure mode.
