Retrocommissioning

Retrocommissioning is making sure euipment and mechanical systems work in existing buildings.

It is a systematic approach by a composite team of engineers and tradesmen to analyze a building's systems and maintenance programs to optimize operating conditions and identify energy conservation opportunities.

Several buildings on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus have been retrocommissioned with an average energy reduction of 29% per building. The buildings include:

  • National Soybean Research Center
  • Krannert Center for the Performing Arts
  • Newmark Civl Engineering Building
  • Turner Hall
  • ACES Library
  • Music Building
Facilities & Services recently added a second retrocommissioning team to expand this successful program.
