Student Initiatives Ethanol (E-85) Tank Project Clean Energy/Alternative Fuels Project Description This project included the installation of a 1,000-gallon above ground ethanol (E-85) storage tank for the University of Illinois Facilities & Services (F&S) Garage & Car Pool (G&CP) Department which was completed in January 2008. Faciltiies & Services is currently using the E-85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline) blend in over 120 flex-fuel vehicles. The use of this renewable fuel supports both state and University sustainability initiatives. Project Goals The Garage & Car Pool consumes approximately 300,000 gallons of gasoline per year. G&CP anticipates the E-85 tank will offset up to 40,000 gallons of gasoline per year with ethanol, reducing emissions by approximately 30 percent with a small reduction in fuel economy. Funding/Budget The student led and administered clean energy technology program paid for $30,000 of the total project cost. Positive Impacts:
